Welcome to the 2016 Gardening Year!

Well, soon, anyway!

Even though there is still snow on the ground, we here at Berthoud Local are busily orderings seeds, organizing for the new and improved Berthoud Local Farmers’ Market, and drawing out plots in the community garden. We just had our first 2016 board meeting, and we have lots of exciting events in the works!

Berthoud Local Board Announcements
Berthoud Local board elections will be taking place at our March board meeting. We have 6 vacant or expiring seats. Are you interested in local and sustainable food? Community engagement? Creating change at the local level? Consider joining our board of directors!

Additionally, we are seeking volunteers!
Community Garden
: plan, plant, maintain and harvest our large garden in Pioneer Park, and organize events around sustainable gardening.
Education Committee: recruits speakers for our sustainable living lecture series.
Farmers Market: assist the Market Manager to check in / check out vendors and man our booth.

If you or someone you know is interested in any of the above opportunities, please email us at berthoudlocal@gmail.com

Seed Swap
hosted by Berthoud Local and the Berthoud Library

Saturday, February 13, 1-3pm
at the Berthoud Library

Bring your saved seeds, extra seeds, half seed packets, any and all seeds! It’s time for a community swap! Come on over to the library and take advantage of the opportunity to trade with your neighbors, check out seeds from the Seed Library, or return any seeds you saved from last season!

And if you don’t have seeds, that’s ok too- you need to investigate the Seed Library and ask questions of our resident Master Gardeners if you have questions about seed starting, seed saving, or how to plan a garden.

Expect to see a seedling exchange about 8 weeks later so if you want to start extra seeds, now you have a great reason to do it!
